The Foundation Scholarship Fund

The Foundation Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 to help academically gifted students of modest financial means to attend St. Catherine’s College. The Fund provides bursaries of up to £1000 per annum to undergraduates who need help with the expense of studying at St Catherine’s College. It was designed in response to the introduction in 1999 of a tuition fee of £1,000 per annum at universities throughout England and Wales.

St. Catherine’s College has a long tradition of offering admission to talented students from underprivileged backgrounds. Alan Bullock used to travel to state-supported schools around the UK to recruit working class students. The JCR has for decades funded a scholarship to allow students from third world countries to attend the College. The introduction of tuition fees, however, has deterred some students of modest economic backgrounds from attending the College. The Fund is the best way to continue the College’s tradition of ensuring that deserving students from all backgrounds have the opportunity to obtain a world-class education.
